3 strategies

In class on tuesday we did 4 centers. In these centers many strategies were used. three that stuck out to me dealt with how to actually create the product, how to collaborate, and how to do trial and error.

When actually making an art project for me it always been painting, drawing, making the shape and filling it in. But a new strategy i have gained is just to rip and make. This was hard for me to see the picture come alive at first and figure out how to go about doing it, but after it was fun. You can just rip and rip and rip and place them to form the figure you have in mind.

The second strategy thats not completely art related but is a strategy used while making art is collaboration. When doing a group project its important for students to express what they are thinking while doing the project so that the best product can come together.

When doing art or new types of art trial and error is always a strategy to use. Its important to realize that error is ok and it will only make it better in the end.

Strategies dont always refer to the actual skill of making an art project but the strategies you use to get to it.

This week was interesting in class. The four stations we had set up were all completely different from each other but you could find a common art skill that could be used in all of them. While looking at this i realized the importance of guidelines and letting students have an idea of what we are looking for, but still allow them the freedom to make a art piece that is all theres. Lines for example. If a requirement is the use of parallel lines, you will not get the same drawing or painting for each child but will have a skill to be able to evaluate the skill you would like to see. Guidelines don't always have to be bad or intimidating for students. They can allow us as teachers to see the skills we need to as well as allow students to keep their creativity. I also realized the importance of materials. When using centers with students i would prefer to make sure their is enough of the same materials for each student. If i have students like me, they will be watching and seeing other students before them having fun and being creative with the materials and ideas star going through my head, and when you finally reach your turn and those materials are no longer there those ideas no longer work. Students should not experience this feeing. As a teacher i would be my job to help manage this.
